Young people can gain employment in other countries: Expanded schemes by UK and New Zealand
More young people will be eligible to participate in the Youth Mobility and Working Holiday programs now that these programs have been expanded. This means that more young people can live and work in both countries for longer periods.
Because of the expansion of our shared visa programs, young people from the United Kingdom and New Zealand will have access to experiences that can completely transform their lives on the other side of the world.
The age limit for people who came from New Zealand to the United Kingdom will increase from 30 to 35 years old on June 29, and the maximum amount of time a person can stay in their host country will increase to three years. Both of these changes will take effect.
The age limit for citizens of the United Kingdom who wish to take advantage of the program in New Zealand will be raised on July 1st, and they will be able to maintain employment throughout their stay of up to three years.
Because of the shared programs, young people from both the United Kingdom and New Zealand can access opportunities that will give them a better understanding of the culture and society of each country. These opportunities include travel, work, and life experiences that take place outside of their home country.
Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick stated that the United Kingdom is always proud to welcome New Zealanders to the country. As a result of the expansion of these schemes, more young people from both the United Kingdom and New Zealand will have the opportunity to make connections that will last, develop their skills, and make a significant contribution to the society of their host country beginning this summer.
Both the United Kingdom and New Zealand stand to benefit economically, socially, and culturally as a result of the changes that we are announcing today. These changes will further strengthen the already strong ties between the two countries.
Iona Thomas, the British High Commissioner to New Zealand, said: "Having more of our young people travel and work in each other's countries stands to benefit both countries culturally, socially, and economically."
There are many instances of young people from the United Kingdom and New Zealand returning home after gaining experience abroad and subsequently using that experience to advance their careers or launch businesses of their own.
The forthcoming changes to the visa rules will make it possible for an even more significant number of young people from both countries to take advantage of the Youth Mobility Scheme. The strong people-to-people connection that already exists between us will be further strengthened as a result of this.
