Women lies to Immigration and told made up stories: Alleges Crown Prosecutor

A couple faces threats from neighbours to burn down their house for not paying the debts to neighbours back, A man who is gay is facing death threats and got bitten in his hometome which is conservative for going to police for protection and A women whose husband passed away due to illness and was bed ridden is being harassed by loan sharks.

These are the stories of people who claimed refugee status. These are definitely stories of terror and persecution of Nurul Syahirah Binti Noor Azman who mentioned them in their refugees claims, told by the Crown to jury  at the Auckland District Court this morning.

But according to Crown prosecutor Jaspreet Bola none of these stories are true. She told the jury when she opened the case against Azman.

According to the Prosecutor, the man who claimed to be a gay is not a gay. The couple who claimed to get threats from neighbours are not a real couple and nobody threatened them for burning down the house.

According to bola, all these stories are pure lies made by these people. And the person who helped these people in spinning these lies of the web is also a defendant.

Bola told court that Azman, who is Malaysian National and 30 years old, was working in the Auckland-based law firm as an interpreter. During covid she lived in Tauranga and worked as kiwifruit pickers with many other Migrants.

Jaspreet Bola, Crown prosecutor alleges Azman encouraged the migrants who are not able to speak or read English, to apply for refugee status and made up the stories. She also took these migrants to her law firm to file their refugee claims.

Bola said that Azman was paid $500 or $600 every time migrants would copy her story narrated for them and filed their refugee claims.

Azman came to light when the Immigration department started the investigation regarding the fraudulent claims in the same year.

New Zealand accepts limited refugees every year. And all those accepted are actually in need of the asylum. This is a fair and honest system.

People such as Azman are offending the integrity and putting the system in real harm, said Bola.

Azman is facing charges of misleading information to a refugee status officer. She is facing five charges in total.

Her lawyer Jolene Reddy said that she did not supply wrong information knowingly and was simply working as an interpreter for those migrants. She had no intent of providing wrong information to immigration department.

But The Crown disagrees with her statement and said that she did that for money and she is working in the business of making up false stories.

A decision is yet to be made as the trial continues..
