Immigration New Zealand is a Disaster: Hospitality Department is Facing Labour Shortages at present

The immigration New Zealand is in shambles. This is a real world problem according to Fleur Caulton, Go To Collection co-founder.

The shortage in Labour is causing havoc in the industry as 55% of the hospitality industry was employed with migrant workers.

This made the restaurant chain take the decision of going into voluntary administration. The decision was announced by the restaurant by releasing a public statement.

Many Restaurants like Go To Collection, the owners of Rata, Madam Woo and Hawker & Roll  decided to go into voluntary administration after decades of success. This was a very tough decision for restaurants.

In their statement they were concerned about the immigration. The covid pandemic has increased the gap in the labour which caused a heavy toll on the business.

According to Caulton, the present immigration conditions in the country are an embarrassment.

The migrant workers were sent back in 2020 which affected the industry as 55% of the hospitality industry was made up of migrant workers in New Zealand.

The people are jumping through the hoops to get the visa as migrant workers have lost their visa status.

According to immigration minister, labour shortages are global, and they are doing their best to make the conditions normal in New Zealand as the world is slowly recovering from the Covid-19 impact.

The immigration process became a lot slower globally after the Covid-19 pandemic. This was more reflected in hospitality and tourism where the maximum workforce was immigrants.

Immigration New Zealand is paying attention towards these sectors as they are concerned about the workforce shortages and taking practicable steps to make business more productive and also working on ways to make the business resilient for operating.

The workforce will become steady as they are waiting for the arrival of 18,000 working holiday visitors out of 37,000 approved since March.

More people were expected to come in the coming months. Also the visas have been extended for those whose visas were expiring between 26 August 2022 and 31 May 2023 by six months.”

Also visa exemptions for highly skilled workers were announced in October by Immgration minister.

All changes will surely overcome the labour shortages in New Zealand in the coming months.
