Green List expansion by New Zealand to resolve the talent crunch in the country
New Zealand is expanding its Green List in order to solve the talent crisis in the country as announced by the immigration Minister Michael Wood.
The expansion of the green list is in order to solve the crisis of labour shortage in various industries in the country. This will allow New Zealand to include more workers in the country to address the worker shortage.
Immigration Minister Michael Wood said that they are expanding the green list to include more professionals in those fields which are lacking in the manpower such as healthcare, education and construction sectors.
This will also help New Zealand in holding a competitive edge on the global level. Having more professionals in these fields will help the people of the country also.
From December 15, the professionals in the field of healthcare like registered nurses, midwives and specialist doctors will be moving straight to Residence green list pathway along with the medical doctors.
Apart from professionals in healthcare, Registered auditors will also be able to enter in the Straight-to-Residence tier starting March 2023.
Migrants who are hired by the accredited employers are eligible for the straight-to-residence visa. They are not required to wait for two years to apply for permanent residency.
The roles added to Green List work-to-residence tier starting March 2023 are:
- civil construction supervisors
- gasfitters
- drain layers
- skilled crane operators
- skilled civil machine operators
- halal slaughterers
- skilled motor mechanics
- skilled telecommunications technicians
- secondary school teachers
- primary school teachers
Immigration New Zealand will again review the Green List in mid 2023, for the possible changes.
Immigration pathways play a critical role in attracting the new people to live and work in New Zealand permanently. This is a very important factor which helps New Zealand to attract the international skilled workers to choose New Zealand to start a new life here according to Kirk Hope, Business NZ chief.
More jobs can be added to the Green list but it is already a progress that Immigration New Zealand reviewed the list and added new occupations after one year's review.
