Duplicate Visas: Immigration NZ accidentally issued two resident visas to applicants

While people are waiting for their residence visas, some people are getting double residency visas from Immigration New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand apologised for the duplicate visas and said that they don’t know the number of duplicate visas issued.

The problem has arised due to the ADEPT, a new computer system which Immigration New Zealand spent %56.6 million for streamline visa operations.
ADEPT is having issues regarding the defects and bugs. Almost 550 production defects and bugs in the start of November were identified.

According to Nicola Hogg, Border and operations manager, the staff is learning to adapt to the new system and it will take time for a large scale system to adapt to the new technology. The new system requires time for learning the processing model and procedures.

In the meantime, encountering the issues is common. After facing new issues it is important to identify and resolve those issues quickly. Every technology on the large scale faces issues. Also the people who learn these technologies face problems in learning new systems.

The immigration department stated that they acknowledge the problems faced by the immigrants and the immigration professionals due to the new system. But they appreciate their patience for working together with them.
There are indeed some problems but the system is working well for most of the applicants.

The duplicate residency visas were issued due to a number of reasons. In some cases the application was reraised in different INZ systems and in some cases the applicant has applied for a secondary applicant addition after the application was submitted.

INZ is working to know how many people were affected. Also the Association of Migration has raised issues with INZ about the working visa, without the employer name issues.

Several extra blank pages of residence visas were behind the residence visas 2021. People may use these pages to create a fraudulent visa with them.
