Prince Edward Island recruits internationally-trained nurses in Dubai

In March, people from Prince Edward Island's main health organization and its visa office went to Dubai to look for nurses to work in the United Arab Emirates.

Rebecca Gill, who is the acting head of Workforce Planning, Recruitment, and Pharmaceutical Services for Health PEI, told the CBC that the province's health authority expects up to 31 nurses to move there by the beginning of next year.

Gill is reported to have said, "They can't wait to get to Prince Edward Island." They are excited to be a part of our health care system and make a difference. They're doing something very important, so I hope they keep doing it.

Officials in the Canadian health care system are having a hard time finding enough people to work. About 20% of the jobs at Health PEI on Prince Edward Island are open right now.

On Prince Edward Island, there aren't enough nurses, and now many of them don't want to work extra jobs.

Tracy Wolbaum, the executive director of human resources for Health PEI, was quoted as saying, "I hear from our nurses that they are afraid to pick up a shift because they don't know if they will be able to go home when that shift is over or if there will be enough staffing when they come in."

Registered nurses and registered mental health nurses in Canada are classified as 31301 in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system. People all over the country want them a lot.

The federal government's website for finding a job and planning a career, Job Bank, says that 11,700 more nurses will be needed in the next eight years. This is the highest rating for work prospects.

From 2022 to 2031, the Job Bank website says, there will be 155,400 new job openings for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses because of growth and replacement demand. There will also be 143,700 new job seekers because of school dropouts, immigration, and movement who will be able to fill them.

The average salary for a nurse in Canada is $78,000 per year, according to statistics from Job Bank.

Foreigners who are qualified to work as nurses in Canada can use their skills to find jobs here and get permanent residency through one of the many federal and provincial economic immigration programs, like the Express Entry system, one of the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), or the Skilled Worker program in Quebec.

Nurses who use the Express Entry system can often apply for the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program if they have a high enough Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) number.

Quebec's Skilled Worker program lets nurses come to Canada if they score at least 50 points on the province's selection grid.

Registered nurses with university degrees in nursing, registered psychiatric nurses with a bachelor's or post-graduate degree in psychiatric nursing, and licensed practical nurses, or registered practical nurses in Ontario,who have completed nursing programs at the university level.
