Beginning in "late 2023," Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada will recognise the PTE as a Designated Language Test (IRCC).
In August of last year, the Canadian government approved a new language test in principle but withheld any further information.
For candidates in the economic class, the IRCC now recognises CELPIP and IELTS General Training as evidence of English ability.
Your Express Entry application will include either an English or a French test, depending on the province you decide to relocate to.
If you are proficient in both French and English in the necessary areas, you receive bonus points.
With the inclusion of PTE Essential, there are currently a total of five language exams accessible to applicants for immigration based on economic class.
Currently, IRCC accepts the following 4 tests for Immigration to Canada:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
- Test d'évaluation du français (TEF)
- Test de connaissance du français pour le (TCF)
With a few exceptions, notably spousal sponsorship and short-term immigration schemes like International Experience Canada (IEC), the majority of economic immigration schemes in Canada demand evidence of language ability.
Immigration candidates must pass the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score required for a particular track in addition to the language test.
