NMC’s Change English Language Requirements

NMC’s Change English Language Requirements - New English language standards will be put into effect by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

According to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the planned adjustments to the English language standards will take effect on February 8 and are expected to be fully implemented by the summer.

The NMC has modified the minimum scores during test combining and increased the term from six to a year as of 8 February 2023.

Furthermore, It is important to note that the NMC has not altered the minimum scores for the Occupational English Test (OET) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

What is more, the NMC has started accepting additional documentation from companies as proof of English language proficiency.

For the time being, this is applicable to individuals who received their English language training in a nation where the language is not widely spoken and who have worked for at least a year in an unregulated capacity in a health and social care environment in the UK.

Additionally, the NMC will look for proof that the training and evaluation were conducted in English.

Hence, the candidates who have already begun their applications and who may be qualified to use supporting data from their workplace are being contacted directly by the NMC.

If you are a candidate and believe you are qualified to use your employer's supporting documentation, please submit your application as usual and the NMC will contact you to seek additional documentation.

The NMC will start accepting supporting documentation from employers later this year for individuals who, after using all test combining possibilities, fell short of the required IELTS or OET score by 0.5 for one of the four main language tests.

It is also forecasted that the NMC will also make adjustments to automate this step of the application procedure during the coming months.

Line managers and counter-signatories will also send their supporting information via NMC Online, and applicants will be able to advise the NMC that they want to utilize this material as part of their online application process.
