A negative COVID test is a must for visitors from China, Hong Kong and Macao: Canadian Government
A negative COVID test is required for visitors from China, Macao and Hong Kong by the Canadian Government as per new regulations by the Canadian government temporarily.
The Canadian government requires negative COVID tests temporarily due to a surge in COVID cases recently in the country.
New temporary measures will be taken by the Canadian government from January 5, 2023, for all air travellers above the age of one to provide a negative COVID-19 test result.
A negative test is required to board a flight to Canada from countries like China, Hong Kong and Macao.
The test must be taken no more than two days before your departure. This was a part of the measure to be in place for an initial 30 days. That is why the test result must not be old than two days.
Canadian government accepts negative molecular, i.e. PCR test or a negative antigen test, with the documentation to prove that the test was monitored by the telehealth service or accredited laboratory or testing provider.
The Canadian government also allows travellers who tested positive more than 10 days in place of negative test results before their departure.
Those who are not able to provide the negative test results of a prior positive result will also be denied boarding.
The Canadian government will apply new measures for all incoming travellers regardless of their nationality and vaccination status.
In addition to the negative test results from China, Hong Kong and Macao, the people travelling to Canada will also be enquired about their recent travel history.
They will be asked about their recent visit to China, Macao and Hong Kong in the past 10 days, according to the Canadian Government.
Suppose they have a recent visit to these countries. In that case, CBSA officers will provide these visitors with additional information about COVID transmission and measures to protect themselves as well as things to do if they have any symptoms of COVID.
These restrictions are only applicable to air travellers, not land.
A new wastewater testing project with aircraft at Vancouver International Airport was built on this by the Public Health Agency Canada and is expanding the current project with Toronto Pearson International Airport.
This was mainly done to assess the COVID-19 prevalence in various parts of the globe.
