Australia fierce competition with other Countries for Skilled Workers

A long time destination for skilled workers is now struggling to attract the skilled workers.

Australia has been on the top of the list for migrant workers, but now it is having a fierce competition with countries like Canada and UK for hiring the skilled workers.

According to reports by many recruitment agencies, finding skilled tech workers in Australia is getting difficult. With cyber attacks, Australia is in dire need of tech workers but finding ones is becoming a difficult task to complete. 

In the global race of finding talented skilled workers, Australian immigration is required to review its immigration policies.

Many countries are adjusting their immigration programs and policies to attract skilled workers and letting these migrants live in the countries permanently. . 

Nathan Sabherwal, a recruiter in recruitment agency Randstad Australia in Sydney, responsible for hiring for data engineering and analytics said that finding the talented tech workers is becoming a difficult task nowadays. 

The wages have increased. The tech roles with earlier wages of  $800 to $900 [a day] are now demanding  $1,100 to $1,300 a day. 

The covid 19 pandemic has affected the migration of skilled workers in Australia. The number of migrant skilled workers entering Australia has significantly decreased after the pandemic.

The immigration policies are making the people nervous about Australian immigration. After the reopening of the borders in 2020, Australia has lost 600,000 people from which 83% are of working age as per CEDA.

Many essential positions are filled by migrant workers in Australia. Software eng, ICT business analysts  developers and programs are granted temporary skilled visas in the second half of this year. 

Kate Pounder, Technology Council of Australia chief executive officer said that tech workers are getting hard to find across the world. After the increased cyber attacks and Russian Ukrainian war, the conditions are getting worse.

India and the US are known to train the cyber workers but now they are needed in every democracy in the West. Indians and Americans hold the most powerful positions in top tech industries like Google, Microsoft and Twitter. 

20% of the migrant workers were from India between July to September 2022. Many countries have already recognised the Indian talent and are offering schemes for Indian immigrants.

Australia too has grown double in the offering of tech jobs and growing twice with the economy. They too need skilled workers as there are no signs of trajectory coming to an end.
