Australia Will Not Accept TOEFL Scores for Visa Purposes

"TOEFL iBT will no longer be offering English language tests for the purposes of obtaining an Australian visa until further notice." On the official website of the Department of Home Affairs in Australia, which can be found at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au, the announcement was made.

The Australian Department of Home Affairs has recently revised the English language requirements that must be met in order to be granted a visa for entry into the nation.

The news came from the government, which declared that effective immediately, TOEFL iBT will no longer be providing English language examinations for the purpose of obtaining an Australian visa, and this decision will remain in effect until further notice.

On the official website of the Department of Home Affairs in Australia, which can be found at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au, the announcement was made.

In the past, the Department of Home Affairs accepted English language scores from the following institutions:

  • IELTS, including OSR
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE)
  • Cambridge English (CAE) (also known as C1 Advanced)
  • OET for health professionals.
  • TOEFL iBT

The TOEFL test will no longer be recognized following the recent revisions.

It is stated on the official website of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship that the TOEFL iBT will no longer be offering English language examinations for the purposes of obtaining an Australian visa as of July 26, 2023, and will continue to make this announcement every six months thereafter.

Beginning on the 14th of December 2022, the IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) will be made available to candidates who have met certain requirements. Test takers are given the opportunity to repeat one of the four parts of the exam—reading, writing, speaking, or listening—but only once, according to the information provided by OSR.

The following has been included: For the purpose of granting Australian visas, the Department will accept IELTS test results that contain OSR; however, applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485 require scores from a single sitting or attempt.
