Skilled Worker Immigration to Canada

The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program is one of the three programs under the Express Entry. The three programs under Express Entry are:

 

  • Federal Skilled Workers (FSW)
  • Federal Skilled Trades (FST)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

 

The Federal Skilled Workers program is for those who don’t have Canadian Experience as required by the Canadian Experience Class or who don’t have trades experience required by Federal Skilled Trades.

 

The Federal Skilled Workers Program is the best choice for those who are skilled workers who have experience in their relative field. FSWP requires work experience in one of the professions in the NOC list.

 

To apply to the FSWP, you need to be eligible and have all desired requirements. Once applied, you will enter the Express Entry pool and will be given points based on the Comprehensive Ranking System CRS. 

 

The Comprehensive Ranking System CRS gives points based on the factors like: Age, Education, Work Experience, Language Proficiency Scores and Adaptability. Each factor has points, and they will be awarded according to your ability and performance in each factor. 

 

Express Entry draws were held every two weeks by the Federal government. If your scores are high in the CRS, then you will get an Invitation To Apply for ITA. After receiving the ITA, you can apply for permanent residency, and it will take around six months to process your PR application.  

 

There are mainly four steps in the FSWP application process which are:

 

  1. Check the eligibility criteria for the FSWP program and see whether or not you meet the requirements for the program.

 

  1. After checking the eligibility, you can submit your EE profile online on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

 

  1. Improve your CRS score in the Express Entry pool (if required) to get the Invitation To Apply. 

 

  1. Once you get the Invitation To Apply, then you can apply for permanent residency by submitting the complete permanent residency application to IRCC. It will take around six months to process your application and to receive your permanent residency visa for Canada. Once your application is approved, you can move to Canada permanently. 

 

Federal Skilled Workers Program Eligibility Criteria:

 

The applicant should have a minimum of 67 points out of 100 to apply for the Federal Skilled Workers Program. The requirements for the Federal Skilled Workers Program eligibility are:

 

  1. The applicant should have a minimum of twelve months or equivalent paid work experience, which should be permanent and full-time in nature in the last ten years in a skilled field which should be classified under National Occupation List (NOC) in skill level 0, A or B

 

  1. The language proficiency test results in English or French, which should be a minimum Level 7 according to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in all four modules of the test (reading, writing, speaking and listening).

 

  1. An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report Canadian educational credentials such as certificates, diplomas or degrees or foreign credentials.

 

  1. Candidates should get a minimum of 67 points out of the 100 points for the Federal Skilled Workers Program. These points are based on factors such as Age, Education, Work Experience, Arranged Employment Language Proficiency Scores and Adaptability.

 

  1. For the Federal Skilled Workers Program, candidates are required to meet the settlement fund criteria. Meaning candidates are required to demonstrate that they have enough funds for settlement in Canada or have enough funds to support themselves financially when they arrive in Canada. 

 

Express Entry Selection Factors:

 

There are six selection factors in the Federal Skilled Workers Program. These factors are: Age, Education, Work Experience, Arranged Employment Language Proficiency Scores and Adaptability. 

 

Each factor has points. You will receive these points based on your ability. The points for each factor are:

 

Factors Points

Arranged employment to 10 points

adaptability to 10 points

up to 12 points

Work experience to 15 points

education to 25 points

Language skills to 28 points

 

Having all the desired requirements for the Federal Skilled Workers Program, you can enter the Express Entry pool. If your scores are high in CRS, then your application will be fetched in the Express Entry Draw, and you will receive an ITA. 

 

If your scores are not high, then you can try to improve your scores in the EE pool. You can retake your language test or add your experience or education. Your profile in the EE pool is valid for two years. After that, you need to update your EE profile. 

 

You have 60 days to apply for permanent residency after ITA. an ITA doesn’t mean permanent residency. You should start preparing for the PR application beforehand and start collecting all the documents which are required. 

 

The PR application processing will take six months. After six months, you can come and live in Canada on a permanent basis.
