Whom Can you Sponsor:

 

 Under Family Reunification Visa, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will allow you to sponsor a family member, which may be Spouse, common-law partner, Conjugal Partner, Dependent children, adopted children, parents and Grandparents. 

 

You are also eligible to sponsor a partner of the same sex. Spouses should be legally married partners, the common-law partners should be living with you for a minimum of 12 months, and the conjugal partner should not be living with you for 12 months due to specific valid reasons. 

 

Spouse, Common Law Partner Sponsorship:

 

The most common sponsorship category under Family Reunification Visa is Spousal or Common Law Partner Sponsorship.  For this sponsorship, the person who is sponsoring and who is sponsoring should be eligible. 

 

You can also sponsor your spouse in case they are already in Canada on a temporary visa. But you should consider carefully all the pros and cons of sponsoring the application onshore and offshore. Also, the eligibility should also be fulfilled by the spouse or partner to whom you are sponsoring. 

 

They should have a clear policy and medical record and also all the documents to prove the relationship between you two. The application usually takes 12 months to process. 

 

Sponsorship for Dependent Children: 

 

Dependent children can also be sponsored, including the children you have adopted. To sponsor your children, you must provide relationship proof like a birth certificate and adoption documents in case of adopted children.

 

Also, you are required to prove the dependency of the child. The child is considered dependent in the case:

 

1. He/she should be less than 22 years old.
2. Should not be married or a common-law partner. 
3. Children who are more than 22 years old are not able to support themselves due to certain mental or physical conditions. 

 

Parent and Grandparent sponsorship:

 

Having your parents or grandparents around you is a blessing. Canada understands the importance of this and allows you to sponsor your parents and grandparents. However, the parent-grandparent program PGP is not open for the whole year. 

 

For the PGP program, you need to submit an interest to sponsor IRCC first on their website as a permanent resident or citizen of Canada. The interest to sponsor can only be submitted during the intake period, which is normally in the month of January every year. 

 

The potential sponsors are randomly selected by the IRCC after the intake period. The selected sponsors will get an ITA. you need to submit the application before the ITA expires. 

 

The sponsor is required to meet the minimum income requirements for the past three years for the PGP program. 

 

In case your parent's grandparents don't want to live in Canada permanently, they can apply for a Super Visa. 

 

Parent and Grandparent Super Visa

 

This is a visa category which allows you to sponsor your parents and grandparents for a period of 10 years. It is a multi-entry visa which allows your parents and grandparents to live for five years on a single entry. Earlier, the stay was for two years.

 

Normal multi-entry visas allow you to stay for six months only in a single visit. You need a country out every six months on a multi-entry visa.

Candidates who can apply for a parent or grandparent super visa must:

 

1. Should be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada
2. Should be allowed to enter Canada and are not inadmissible.
3. Should meet all the visa requirements.
