Economic Immigration to Canada
Economic Immigration Canada is the immigration category which provides economic support to the Canadian economy. It helps to grow the Canadian economy.
This category is most common for immigrants who want to immigrate to Canada on a permanent basis. These immigrants migrate to Canada on the basis of their skills while they are either in Canada or abroad.
The migrants under Economic Immigration Canada are usually those who meet the requirements of the Canadian Labour market and have specific work skills and work experience, which will help them contribute to the economy of Canada.
These include skilled workers from occupations like management, technical and others. There are many classes under Economic Immigration Canada:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Quebec Skilled Workers
- Provincial Nominee Program
- Canadian Experience Class
1. Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a stream under Express Entry Program, which is a federal program for getting permanent residency in Canada.
This is a point-based system which uses a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates are given points based on their skills and eligibility factors.
The CRS ranks them accordingly, and the applicants with the highest scores are ranked above. An Express Entry draw selects the highest-ranking candidates, and they will get an Invitation To Apply (ITA).
After receiving the ITA, you have sixty days to complete your Permanent residency application. An ITA doesn't guarantee permanent residency; however it will increase your chances.
Eligibility for Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
There are many factors which determine your eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). These factors are age, educational credentials, work experience, language proficiency in English or French, and adaptability.
- The applicant must have a minimum of one year of full-time job experience which should be continuous or equivalent part-time job experience in the past ten years in the occupation list with skill type 0, A or B of the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).
- Educational credentials are equivalent to Canadian diplomas, certificates or Credentials.
- Language proficiency test score of minimum level 7 in either English or French.
- A minimum score of 67 points out of 100 point grid in the six selection factors: age, education, work experience, language proficiency, arranged employment and Adaptability.
- The proof of funds for settlement in Canada after you reach there. These funds should be legit.
- Medical and Police clearance certificate for the applicant and family members, if any.
2. Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is a stream under the Express Entry program for those who are skilled in trades and want to live in Canada permanently.
The applicants under the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) must be:
- Must be planning to live outside the province of Quebec as the province of Quebec has its own skilled workers programs.
- The applicants must have a minimum language proficiency level of 7 in English or French language.
- The applicants must be working for minimum of two years in a continuous full time job or equivalent part time job in the previous five years period.
- The applicant must fulfil the requirements of the skilled trades under NOC.
- An employment offer of one year which is full-time in the occupation mentioned in the NOC list.
Only Canadian provinces and territories issue the qualification certificate in the skilled trades. So applicants, before applying, should confirm the requirements in the particular province or territory.
3. Quebec Skilled Worker Program
Quebec has different immigration programs than federal programs. For the Quebec Skilled Worker Program, the applicants are required to submit an application under the Quebec Government for the Certificate of Selection.
The Application for Quebec Skilled Worker Program also includes a police clearance certificate or police check and medical exam.
If your application is accepted by the Quebec Government and you receive a certificate, then you can apply for permanent residency at IRCC.
4. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Every Canadian province and territory has their nominee programs. These PNPs select and nominate applicants for permanent residency in the province. These applicants should meet the requirements of the labour market of the province.
The applicants who have qualified under the PNP have priority in the permanent residency application processing.
You can qualify under the PNP under skilled or semi-skilled workers, international student graduates and investors.
5. Canadian Experience Class
Canadian Experience Class is also a stream under the Express Entry. Unlike FSW and FSTP, the Canadian Experience Class required the Canadian Experience. The applicant must have a minimum of one year of Canadian experience in a full-time job.
For international students, the experience under a student permit is not applicable. You should obtain work experience on a post-graduate work permit.
Most of these programs are point based and applied under the Federal Express Entry program. So all the applicants should fulfil the basic eligibility requirements of Express Entry before applying for these programs.
