Large shopping malls are replacing small shops. What is your opinion about this? Discuss with appropriate examples.
In many nations around the world, the trend of big malls replacing small shops is becoming more and more common. While some contend that this change is advantageous and constructive, others contend that it has unfavourable effects.
Large shopping mall construction can, on the one hand, have a lot of benefits. First of all, these malls allow customers to shop conveniently and quickly by providing a variety of goods and services under one roof. Second, large malls frequently employ a sizable staff, which generates job opportunities and benefits the regional economy. Thirdly, shopping centres offer a place where people can congregate and interact, which can foster a sense of community.
On the other hand, the expansion of large malls may be detrimental to small businesses. Small businesses frequently find it difficult to compete with the larger malls' convenience and lower prices. A homogenization of goods and services brought on by the concentration of big retail chains in malls can also reduce the diversity and uniqueness of local shopping areas.
I believe that while large shopping malls have some benefits, the preservation of small businesses should be balanced with their expansion. This can be done by implementing policies that help small businesses, such as tax breaks or financial incentives for landlords to let independent stores rent their space.
Shopping centres can also be planned to include both bigger chain stores and smaller, locally owned businesses. In this way, it is possible to benefit from big-box stores while also preserving diversity and boosting regional economies.
Despite the fact that the development of large shopping malls can have a number of positive effects, it is crucial to take into account how it will affect local businesses and the economy. We can make sure that the expansion of large malls is balanced with the preservation of small businesses and the diversity they bring to our neighbourhoods by putting the right measures and policies in place.
