Coalition slams the government on “New Zealanders vote rights” while other temporary migrants don’t.

The coalition slams the Albanese government for putting the non discriminatory migration policy under harm’s way by proposing New Zealanders vote rights.

The shadow immigration minister stated that he is concerned about the permanent migration of 35,000.

Anthony Albanese, in July announced the consideration of improvement in pathways for New Zealanders for Australian Citizenship and gaining the voting rights. These mainly include those who are permanently living in Australia or have lived a year or longer in New Zealand.

Dan Tehan has commented on Albanese’s announcement that it will change the immigration settings in the country and it is also in odds with the non- discriminatory policy of the immigration programs. It will give the rights to New Zealanders which other migrants are not able to enjoy.

The electoral matters committee is planning on the program which will allow permanent residents and New Zealanders to have the right to vote which will be applicable from 2022 elections.

The current vote rights are for citizens and the members of the commonwealth who live in Australia and are enrolled in voting before 1984. They are also liable to the same penance as citizens in case of not casting the ballot.  Permanent residents of Australia are also given the voting rights in New Zealand.

According to Dan Tehan, Australia is showing a more lenient approach in regard to the New Zealand criminals staying in the Country. He also commented that Albanese should provide the details about which and why New Zealand’s criminals should be living in Australia.

In an announcement made in September by the Labor Party, The Country’s migration cap will be lifted to 195,000 places. The decision was supported by the opposition.

But Mr Tehan said that the Labor Party hasn’t made the case for the immigration reforms. They need to explain how the uncapped and capped temporary and permanent residency programs can be run together.

He also stated that the immigration settings will be less targeted by the migrants as visas are prioritized and migrants are feeling dressed with the government's behavior.

He also warned by saying that the migration cap should be filled with young and highly skilled workers rather than prioritizing as it will make the condition worse if skilled workers are not being prioritized.
