Why a spirited review is required by Australian Immigration
Allah Noor first arrived in 2015 in Australia from New Zealand and has been waiting for his Paperwork to be processed for permanent residency for three years now.
The IT system engineer has been working in Melbourne since 2015 and applied for permanent residency after 5 years along with his family. He wished to live in Australia permanently with his wife and four kids and contribute to the community.
But his permanent residency application got disrupted during covid period leaving the family in despair. Now he is again asked to submit the medical and background information which is time consuming and frustrating.
He said it has been a long time since I applied and now I have to go through the whole procedure again because my previous application has expired. It is fine with you or your partner, but with four kids, it is really difficult and expensive.
This is just one story out of many. Considering the difficulties of these applicants the government has decided to launch a four month review of immigration system. It will also help in record labour shortages in the country.
The Albanese Government’s first challenge in office is to solve the problems regarding visa categories and subcategories, complex legal problems.
After six months of elections, many visas were processed, making the entry of the skilled workers in the country. But the main question is: Before the May 2023 budget, how much progress will the Labour Party make in visa applications?
To speed up the process, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said that a review iof immigration system is required. With the long clouser of the international borders by Australia, the economy is greatly affected.
For the reviews in the new policies by immigration department, a committee was formed which includes Former public service chief Martin Parkinson, University of Adelaide law professor and temporary labour migration expert Joanna Howe, and former Deloitte partner John Azarias.
This committee will present the review report in February 2023. The reviews report proposal will be presented in the May 2023 Federal Budget.
Let's hope the new changes will speed up the process and work on the labour shortages in the country.
