Visa Opportunities in Australia: A ray of hope for skilled workers

The country is facing problems in various occupations due shortage of skilled workers following the past year. The conditions worsened following the post Pandemic period. With authorities working tirelessly to put together a solution for the problems, however, it's not going to be easy.

In the year 2022 there are 286 occupations who are facing skilled workers shortage as compared to the 153 occupations in 2021 as per the Federal Government funded National Skills commission. 

According to skills Minister Brendan O’Connor on Tuesday, “The staggering jump in occupations listed reinforces the urgent need to tackle skills shortages”.

The occupations in top demand mainly include nurses, software programmers, aged care workers, construction managers and child care workers. 

According to the director of Grattan Institute economic policy program, Brendan Coates the new occupation list doesn't mean there would be immediate changes to skilled migration. The list of occupations that are short in skilled workers is

The priority is to fill the 44 most critical skills shortage. The applications from these occupations are being fast tracked through Commonwealth and state and territory visa processing schemes. The applications from hospital and industrial pharmacist and retail pharmacist were also fast tracked as these occupations are also added to the july 2021 list. 

While the changes to the skilled occupation list of more than 400 occupations will likely take more time. According to Mr. Coates, these lists will take more time and are not necessarily changeable.

According to Innes Willox, it was a reminder of the importance of the migration program to filling immediate skis gaps, by releasing the skills list. The 482 temporary skills visas are very important to fulfill the needs of the occupations who are in need of skilled workers for their work to continue.

The shortage has affected the businesses deeply affecting the economy greatly. There is no official response from the department of Home Affairs. 

According to the spokespersons for the National Skills Commision the list is helpful in deciding the target of the policies. As it is the only input to advise the required changes in the policies. Government has also taken steps to strengthen vocational education and training. 

The Government is prioritizing the Jobs and Skills Australia Bill which is in senate for passage. The Labor Government has also agreed to deliver 20,000 new university places in 2023.

According to reports the job advertisement in Australia this year has increased by 42% with 309,900 jobs as  compared to 2021 August Advertisements.
