The Unfair treatment of Australian Government with Onshore skilled workers

The Australian Government is trying to meet the workforce requirements of the country by fast tracking the applications of skilled migrant workers. This fuels the anger of onshore workers who are still waiting for their visas to be processed.

The Federal Government has issued 12,500 invitations for skilled independent 189 visas on October 6. Most of these visas were issued to the offshore applicants.

This really angered the onshore workers who have  been waiting for their applications to be processed for a long time. In this regard more than 3,000 people have signed an online petition, demanding equal priority to onshore and offshore applicants.

The invitation issued by the Federal Government mainly includes the healthcare, Engineering and educational occupations. The 189  visas are permanent visas with fewer restrictions and application decisions being on a point based system.

The majority of these invitations were sent to the offshore applicat than onshore applicants according to a Melbourne migration agent. But according to the experts, this policy is threatening the current system of faith.

The Melbourne migration agent Mr Kirk Yan organized the petition for equal treatment of onshore and offshore migrant workers stating that the current system is unfair towards the onshore skilled workers.

The onshore workers have more relevant jobs and work experience as compared to offshore workers. They are more accommodated in the country's social environment and have higher language proficiency than offshore skilled workers.

The government’s behavior towards onshore skilled migrant workers might push them away. The policy would greatly affect Australia's economy if they fail to provide the right workforce to the country.

This may also cause the loss of more potential skilled workers who might have filled the workforce of the country. The country might not be able to attract the desired workforce from offshore while losing the current workforce of onshore workers.

The immigration minister stated that the priority to bring offshore workers is temporary but it does not change the anger of the onshore workers whose applications are still pending.

The current policy is to address the current labor shortage in the country as the officials stated.
