New Australian Migrant Visa report: the Visa processing time for all the visas is extended by months

The bridging visas has increased drastically by six times according to a new study. The same that warns about the doubled processing time of the 887 skilled workers visas.

According to the reports Australia hasn’t benefited at all from not allowing people to settle in Australia and letting them get at a risk of explorations on work.

Australia has decreased the staff for onshore applications despite the inverse in the number of onshore applications, making the conditions worse for the onshore applications, as they are not able to get permanent jobs without a permanent residency.

It is taking months and in some cases years to process their applications, making the conditions worse for the migrant workers and putting them at a greater risk of explorations.

In the report released by The Migrant Center MWC titled “Waiting to be seen: Problems of Australia’s Visa Processing Delays” it is stated that the Department of home affairs has unreasonable delays in the processing of Temporary and Permanent visa applications.

A high number of onshore applications are waiting for as long as 3 years, to get their applications processed. But the department of Home Affairs is focused on the offshore  applications ignoring the onshore applications to meet the requirements of the labor market.

A protest was held against the doubled processing time in 887 skilled workers visa applications in Hobart. Due to delay in the visa applications, the applicants are frustrated as they are not sure how to plan their future ahead. A report stated.

Whereas the visa categories like seasonal worker program, student visa and working holiday makers visas are being processed at a fast pace to meet the needs of the labor market.

Due to delay in the onshore visa applications, the number of bridging visas have been increased by six times, rising the numbers from 92,055 in 2016 to 333,357 in 2021.

The MWC report criticized the Australian Immigration policy by saying that it only tends the immediate needs of business ignoring the long run benefits to the country by bringing the more skilled workers which can help in strengthening the country’s economy.

The report has many recommendations which includes: hiring of more staff for visa processing, fast visa processing, allocation of more resources to processing services and clear paths to permanent residency,
