Migration of skilled workers in both directions encouraged between India and Australia

The two countries, India and Australia, have just struck an agreement that would make it simpler for skilled employees and university graduates to go back and forth between the two countries.

Graduates of Indian educational institutions in Australia who are currently in possession of a student visa have until the first of July of this year to submit an application to work and pursue professional development without the need for visa sponsorship for a period of up to eight years.

There has never been a migration agreement quite like the one that Australia and India just signed. It describes new possibilities for visa applicants to extend their visas or apply for new visas, with the goal of increasing labour mobility for students, graduates, scholars, professionals, and visitors staying for a short amount of time.

In addition to that, there are rules that aim to put an end to undocumented immigration and the trafficking of people. The recruitment of skilled individuals, however, is the primary concern.

The agreement also includes a new pilot program, which will be referred to as MATES for short.

Graduates and young professionals from India will be able to go to Australia on a two-year visa without the need for sponsorship under this new program.

It will have an annual limit of 3,000 spaces for the first four years, after which it will be evaluated by a joint group to determine whether or not it should be extended.
