Australia to make changes in visas in the federal budget All we know about changes

The Labor party is trying their best to fix the visa processing times and has promised to make all required changes in Australia’s humanitarian program. The details of the same will be expected to be disclosed in the budget session on 25 October.

Everyone is waiting for the budget to get a glimpse of the changes in the Australian Visa program. The current Albanese government has already boosted the country’s migration intake to a significant number. But the migrant workers and potential migrant workers are still hoping for more changes in the October budget regarding the visa changes.

The Morrison government had cut the migration budget by $ 875 millions over the period of 4 years, to the Department of Home Affairs. The skilled and family visas were kept to a number of 160,000 by the previous Morrison Government.

The result led to the delayed visa processing times followed by the complaints of many businesses about being unable to find the required and right manpower for the smooth operations of the businesses.

In September, during the jobs summit , the current Government assured to speed up the visa processing times and announced a sum of $ 36.1 millions to employ more staff to make the visa processing faster for nine months.

Andrew Giles stated during the jobs summit that at the time of the Labor party’s win in May, around one million visas were under processing. But the time of processing for temporary skilled visas has reduced to 42 days from 53 days in July.

He also said that the backlog of applications is still around 872,000 due to the rise in the applications after the Australian borders were opened again after the lockdown period during covid pandemic.

New applications of around 2.22 million were received till 1 June 2022 by the immigration department which was much higher than the 495,000 received during the same period in 2021.

The Department of Home affairs has already increased the staff by a number of 260 to increase the visa processing speed.

Furthermore the government is planning to put back the $875 million which were cut during Morrison Government’s period. As stated by the officials, the department of Home Affairs needs more funds to work on its top speed.
