Australia is set to become the Immigration Nation Again after the pandemic

The rapid increase in the “For Lease”sign in Australia is a common sight after the Covid-19 pandemic. The empty seats in offices and workers required in small businesses are some after effects of the pandemic.

The big cities like Melbourne, Victoria are in bad state due to workforce shortage and require a helping hand to get back as they were before the pandemic.

The country has not recovered fully after the covis lockdown and is taking various measures to get back. In the same regard, A rebate scheme was reintroduced  statewide to support Victoria's COVID-ravaged entertainment, hospitality and tourism sectors  last month .

The two year lockdown during covid left Australia with nearly half million vaccines in various sectors. Most of these jobs were to be occupied by the skilled migrant workers if there wasn’t the pandemic.

Australia was once known as the immigration nation before the covid. Now the country is struggling to fill the vacant positions which are causing a serious impact on the economy.

Paul Guerra, CEO of Victorian Chamber of Commerce stated that all of Victoria is facing a problem with the workers. They don’t have access to the workers.

The businesses are facing the problems with the recruitment even with the high wages as there are not enough locals to fulfill the positions. One way to solve these problems is to hire migrant skilled workers.

Australia is the island continent with nearly half of the immigrant population of first or second generation. Before the pandemic The country had the second largest temporary immigrant workforce for Economic Development.

But in the present time the country is facing the second worst labor shortage after Canada. And the effect is on all sectors including hospitality, health, education, child care and aged care, and IT sectors.

Melbourne too has faced the same problem as Victoria. A large number of people moved during the lockdown and now the city is facing worker shortage more than ever.

The lack of a relief fund for temporary workers has also added to the worker shortage. The country is heavily dependent upon the migrant workforce for its economic growth and boost.

Now facing the critical conditions the Federal government has decided to begin the largest overhaul of Australia's permanent immigration program.

Prime Minister Albanese said that the country needs to attract the more skilled workers through attractive programs like permanent residency. The Country is aiming to become the Immigration Nation once again.
