Australia is planning to restrict Foreign students' work hours again from July 2023.

Amid the workforce shortage, Australia decided to relax the work hour restrictions from January 2022 for students. The main goal was to address the workforce shortages. This was a temporary decision by the Australian Government to meet the workforce shortage.

The Australian government has also announced last month that the government is extending its post study work rights in skilled worker shortage industries for international students.

The government has decided to restrict the work hours for international students again. The unrestricted work hours are valid till 30 June 2023. They will again restrict the number of hours an international student can work;

The working hours for international students are going to be restricted again from July 2023. The Australian Government stated that the decision is made to maintain the work and study balance for the international students.

With the announcement of extending post study work rights of international students last month, the government is trying to address the needs of skilled shortage industries.

The students were allowed to work for 40 hours before the relaxation was provided by the Australian Government.

A new budget of AUS $36 million will be allocated by the Australian Government to improve the visa procedure and reduce the visa decision delay of international students.

The Government is hoping to see an increase in the study visa application with the proposed changes which were affected badly during the Covid-19 period.

Post-study work rights
The announced post study work rights in skilled worker shortage industries for international students are

1) For Selected undergraduate degrees: Four-year post-study work permission. The current limit is two years.
2) For Selected postgraduate degrees: Five-years . The current limit is three years.
3) For Graduates of selected PhD degrees: Six years .The current limit is four years.
The Australian government's Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs has issued The 2022-23 Migration Program. The program is designed to speed up the economic recovery of the country which is still affected  by the Covid Pandemic.
